The Bay of Kotor and the marina we are staying right now are quite unique. The terrain of Montenegro is really quite cool, it's beautiful mountains falling off into the sea. Clearly the places we have been also have many mountains falling off into the sea but these mountains remind me more of North Carolina and are not just rock cliffs. We decided to rent a car today to do some inland exploration. I'll let you know how that works out.
The marina we are in is new and gorgeous. It's a very efficient operation and is built to cater to the rich and famous. Everything is just clean and pristine. There are constant crews of cleaning people, helpful "crew" personnel running around offering to help. Many of the yachts moored here are some of the nicest I have seen. The language of the marina is english which is very nice. The written language of Montenegro is a challenge for me right now. So far I don't understand any of it much less can I pronounce it.
The marina pool is a work of art. It is right on the water and "infinity-pool" style. There is artwork scattered all around and really nice leather sofas, umbrellas and little cabanas. We got invited to a pool party this afternoon but I doubt if we will make it. My Speedo is at the lavanderia.
They have clearly poured a lot of money into this place. Even outside the marina "compound" which has security guards at every entrance the whole waterfront area is clean and well maintained. There is a lot of tourism in the local area with the surrounding area packed with entertainment, food and drink and water activities. It's not the cheesy kind of beach front we have found in some other areas.
There is no real beach close to us but there is still beach-like activity. What I mean by that is there are large concrete platforms extending out from the sidewalk along the water upon which the normal beach stuff happens. People lay out, set up chairs and umbrella on these big concrete slabs. There are ladders down to the water if you want to jump in and cool off. Cloth partitions up near the sidewalks provide a nice changing area. It is quite a busy place on hot afternoons.
